TRAI HE NGANH THIEU 2027 - Camp Chief named:

Thao-Ann Nguyen, Associate Advisor, Crew 105, Lien Doan Huong Viet, Orange County, California

Thao-Ann Nguyen joined the Scouting movement at the age of 8.  After graduating from college, she registered as an Associate Advisor and Girl Scout Gold Award Advisor.  As a youth, Thao-Ann earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, and in 2021, she was recognized as the Rancho San Joaquin District Crew Advisor of the Year.

Thao-Ann currently supports a multi-level Girl Scout troop of approximately 35 girls, as well as multi-level Scouting America troops and a crew serving 128 youth.  She previously served as Advisor for Crew 105 and as Camp Chief for Trai Ket Than 2025.  Most recently, she attended the Tung Nguyen XI Wood Badge course and is currently working on completing her tickets.

Outside of Scouting, Thao-Ann earned her B.S. in Sociology and MBA from UCLA and currently works as a Business Development Manager at a law firm.

It is a pleasure to appoint Thao-Ann Nguyen to serve as Camp Chief for Trai He Nganh Thieu V, Vietnamese Summer Camp during July 4 – 10, 2027.  Trai He Nganh Thieu is a week-long summer camp for Scouts at the Troop level (ages 11 – 15) that offers up to 30 merit badges.  Scouts will be able to select two to four merit badges (depending on how time-intensive each merit badge is) to complete during the day at Trai He Nganh Thieu, with traditional Vietnamese-American program being ran each evening by our unit leaders serving as staff.

TRAI KHAI PHA 2027 - Camp Chief Named:

Maurice Le, Advisor, Crew 817, Lien Doan Bac Dau, San Jose, California

Maurice began his Scouting journey back in 1994 as a Cub Scout in Pack 285 with Liên Đoàn Ra Khơi in San Jose, California. He earned the Arrow of Light in 1997 and later joined Troop 285 in 1998. While in troop, he developed his leadership skills through various leadership positions where he eventually served as Senior Patrol Leader by 2004. In 2005, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and continued his Scouting path with Crew 222.

Since 2013, Maurice has dedicated himself to mentoring youth as a Crew Advisor, demonstrating his strong commitment to servant leadership, citizenship, and character growth. To further enhance his skillsets and leadership style, Maurice participated in Wood Badge, specifically Tùng Nguyên 8 (WB 999-16), in 2016 at Camp Maluhia in Maui, HI and earned his beads by early 2018. In late 2017, he cofounded Liên Đoàn Bắc Đẩu Pack/Troop/Crew 817 with the same mission: servant leadership and giving back to the youth in his community.

Maurice has had the privilege of serving in key leadership roles such as:

  • Troop Subcamp Program Staff for Thẳng Tiến 9 at San Lorenzo Park, 2009
  • Venturing Subcamp Support Staff for Thẳng Tiến 10 at Camp Strake, 2014
  • Support Staff for Trại Khai Phá 2 at Camp Rancho Alegre, 2015
  • Quartermaster and Assistant Camp Chief for Trại Khai Phá 3 at Camp Emerald Bay, 2017
  • Troop Guide for Tùng Nguyên 9 (WB 999-19) at Camp Clark, 2019
  • Assistant Scoutmaster of Logistics for Tùng Nguyên 10 (WB 999-23) at Camp Tamarancho, 2023
  • Logistics Lead for Trại Bình Tâm 2 at Schoepe Scout Reservation, 2025

Maurice is honored to have the opportunity to serve as Camp Chief for Trại Khai Phá 6, Vietnamese Venturing Supercamp during July 4 – 10, 2027. Trai Khai Pha is a week-long program designed to allow Scouts at the Venturing level (ages 14 – 20) to experience new opportunities to test their skills and to meet other Scouts from across the country. This camp will offer several high adventure activities, Scoutcraft, shooting sports, water activities and much more! Trai Khai Pha provides the opportunity for Vietnamese-American youth to participate in a high-quality and exciting program.
